Jackets Drop DH To Ranked Concordia

Matthew Daniel hit his fourth homer of the year on Saturday versus Concordia

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 AUSTIN, Texas – 16th-ranked Concordia University Texas come from behind in both Saturday games to claim the conference series with Howard Payne at Tornado Field. HPU fell 8-2 in the opening contest, and lost 4-3 in the nightcap.

In the opening tilt, the Yellow Jackets had a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. However, Concordia scored eight unanswered runs in its next four at-bats to overtake the Jackets.
Jacob Spivey got the loss and stays at 3-3 on the year. Spivey gave up seven runs on five hits. He struckout two and walked two in five innings of work. Ethan Ferrel would give up one run in one inning of relief. John Elmore finished 2-for-3 from the plate.

In game two, Howard Payne took a 2-1 advantage in the top of the fourth on a two-run homer by Matthew Daniel, but CTX responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame. After Concordia added one in the sixth, the Yellow Jackets responded with one in the ninth and had the tying run on second but would not be able to bring them home.

Corey Howie would throw all eight innings for Howard Payne and strike out two and walk two.

Howard Payne is now 14-15 overall and 11-13 in ASC action. Concordia Texas is 23-7 overall and 18-5 in conference play. The Jackets will travel to Clinton, Miss next weekend for a three game series with Mississippi College.
