Jackets Get Saturday Sweep Of LeTourneau

Corey Howie recorded his first win of the year in the series finale versus LeTourneau

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne baseball team got great pitching performances from Jacob Spivey and Corey Howie to record a double header sweep of LeTourneau University 2-1 and 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Don Shepard Park.

In game one, Jacob Spivey would get the no decision in the start throwing seven innings. Spivey gave up just one run on just two hits and struckout five. Ethan Ferrel threw the final frame and recorded one strikeout with the win. 

It was Matthew Daniel who got the walkoff RBI single to score Colton Brown in the bottom of the eighth giving the Jackets the 2-1 victory.

Dustin DeJohn would single through the left side in the third inning to give Howard Payne a 1-0 lead. LeTourneau would score on run in the fifth to tie the game at 1-1.

Colton Brown and Dustin DeJohn each finished 2-for-4 from the plate.

Corey Howie allowed just two hits in game two of the double header. Howie had solid defensive support behind him as he struckout two and walked just one.

The Jackets had just five hits and were led by Kyle Kulczyk who was 2-for-3 from the plate. Jake Sadler drove in what would be the winning run in the second on a triple to right center.

Howard Payne improves to 13-13 overall and 10-11 in conference play. LeTourneau falls to 19-9 overall and 13-8 in ASC action. The Jackets will play next weekend in Austin versus Concordia University Texas.
