AUSTIN, Texas – Poor shooting by the Howard Payne women's basketball leads to a 56-52 conference loss for the Lady Jackets to Concordia University Texas Thursday evening.
With no player hitting a three-pointer in the game, both teams would combined for 0-11 shooting from behind the arc. Howard Payne outrebounded Concordia 51-37 in the game but the CTX forced 26 HPU turnovers.
Concordia put together run midway through the first half to lead by nine, 24-15 with 6:55 on the clock.
33% shooting by the Lady Jackets in the first half led to a 28-23 Concordia advantage at the half. CTX shot 43% from the field in the first half.
Howard Payne would gain the lead midway through the second 37-36 with 11:23 to play in the game on two free-throws by
Danyel Bradley. She would finished the game 14 of 16 from the line.
Shooting problems continued for Howard Payne and Concordia would build 51-45 lead with 3:24 left in the game. Howard Payne would shoot just 30% from the field for the game.
The Lady Jackets then rallied to pull within one 53-52 after Bradley missed the second of two free-throws with :21 second left in the game. With HPU having to foul, Concordia then hit free-throws down the stretch to give HPU the 56-52 conference loss.
Danyel Bradley led all scorers with 22 points along with seven rebounds and four assists.
Sarah Van Remmen had 10 points and seven rebounds.
Kalin Hanna had a solid game with eight points and game highs of 15 rebounds and six blocks.
CTX was led by Nadine Fadelle with 19 points. Isis Johnson had 13 and Kia Love scored 10 off the bench.
Howard Payne is now 8-7 overall and 5-5 in American Southwest Conference action. Concordia improves to 6-9 overall and 5-6 in conference. The Lady Jackets will play on Saturday at Mary Hardin-Baylor starting at 1:00 pm.
