BELTON, Texas – Howard Payne's
Danyel Bradley pours in a career high 45 points to lead the Lady Jackets to an 84-72 conference win over Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday afternoon.
HPU's
Danyel Bradley finished the game with a new career high 45 points. It was the second most points in a game by a Lady Jacket in school history. The HPU and ASC records is 46 points by HPU's Kristy Lyons versus UMHB in 2003.
Bradley also tied the ASC record for most field goals made in a single game (18) becoming one of three players in the ASC to make 18 shots from the perimeter and the first since 2004 (Patrece Carter-Spivey, Louisiana College).Howard Payne used a 24-4 run midway through the first half to build a 31-19 lead with five minutes remaining before the break. The Lady Jackets would shot 44% from the floor in the opening half while forcing 15 UMHB turnovers.Leading 41-32 at the half, the Lady Jackets pushed their lead to 57-38, on a layup by
Jada Evans with 15:11 left in the game.
UMHB rallied to cut the HPU lead to six, 62-56 with nine minutes left. Then HPU's
Danyel Bradley, who had been dominating the second half, took over pouring in 32 points in the second half.
The Lady Jackets shot 68% from the field in the second and 54% for the game on their way to the 84-72 victory.
Bradley was 18 of 24 from the field in her 45 point effort. She added three assists and four steals to her numbers.
Yessenia Cazares had 11 points off the bench and
Kalin Hanna finished with a game high 13 points and five blocks.
UMHB was led by Bridjai Chaney and Alyssa Dean with 15 points each followed by Taylor Tucker with 11.
Howard Payne is now 9-7 overall and 6-5 in American Southwest Conference play. UMHB falls to 9-8 overall and 5-7 in conference. The Lady Jackets will play next on Thursday at home versus the University of Texas at Dallas.
