BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne Lady Jackets fell to McMurry University 3-0 (22-25, 17-25, 19-25) despite playing one of their better defensive games on the season, falling to 1-13 on Tuesday evening.

In their last meeting, Howard Payne took McMurry to 5 sets before falling 3-2 in route to setting team highs in block assists (12) & kills (39) while picking up the second highest dig total (65) on the season despite McMurry having a major height advantage at the net.

Despite the final score, the defensive play from Howard Payne was present, still lacking height at the net. The Lady Jackets found themselves in a back and forth battle in the first set with McMurry before falling 22-25. Howard Payne picked up 13 kills on the set to McMurry's 17. The second and third sets however did not fall in the Lady Jackets favor dropping them 17-25 and 19-25.

Howard Payne picked up five blocks on the night to McMurry's two and added 48 total team digs. Analisa Anzaldua had 17 digs on the night and continues to improve her defense marking a new season high,  surpassing her high of 13 set just last week. Howard Payne's Athlete of the Month Shelbie Harry led with 11 kills on the night marking her third game with 11 kills in the past week. Harry also led in blocks with three. Micah Cisneroz also had 11 kills and two blocks respectively. Cheyanne Lovelady and Katie Schulte each had 16 assists on the night.

McMurry finished with 47 total kills and 59 total blocks on the evening. Catherine Heath led the team with 13 kills. Bethany Holub followed with 10. Morgan Thomas led the team with 27 assists. Odalis Rodriguez finished the night with 18 digs.

The Lady Jackets fall to 1-13 on the year and 1-5 in conference play. McMurry is now 9-5 on the season. Howard Payne will be back on the court Wednesday, October 7th, at 6:00 p.m. as they host Hardin-Simmons University at the Brownwood Coliseum.
