BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne women's basketball team held Sul Ross State to just 11 points in the second half to post a 71-33 conference win Monday evening at the Brownwood Coliseum.

After holding Sul Ross State to 25% shooting in the first half, the Lady Jackets buckled down even more defensively holding the Lobos to 15% in the second.

Howard Payne started the game on a 10-0 run and never looked back leading 43-22 at the break. Kalin Hanna recorded six of her game high seven blocks in the first.

The Lady Jackets, who were 5 of 10 from behind the arc in the first, would go 1 of 11 in the second from three point range.

Howard Payne outrebounded Sul Ross State 58-36, 20 of their 58 were on offensive boards.

Yessenia Cazares finished with 15 points on 5 of 10 shooting from behind the arc. Sarah Van Remmen had 15 points and nine rebounds. Kalin Hanna added nine rebounds to her seven blocks. Sarahi Castillo had nine rebounds off the bench.

Sul Ross was led by Xylina Carlisle with 10 points. Gabriela added nine points and eight rebounds.

Howard Payne is now 13-10 overall and 10-8 in American Southwest Conference play. Sul Ross State stands at 4-19 overall and 3-15 in conference. The Lady Jackets will play next on Thursday at home versus East Texas Baptist University at 5:30 pm.
