GEORGETOWN, Texas -,Up by two in the bottom of the ninth, the Howard Payne baseball team allowed a string of walks and hits to fall 6-5 in Southwestern University's last at bat Tuesday in non-conference action.
With Southwestern leading 2-0 going into the fourth, the Jackets would score on a
Jake Sadler sac fly to plate
Micah Thompson who reached on a doubled to left field.,
After a Southwestern single run in the fifth, the Jackets answered with three runs in the sixth.,
Brett Quackenbush singled through the right side to score
Brandon Garrett, Then Will,Roberts put down a sac bunt to score Sadler from third. Finally, a John,Elmore singled to left field brought home Quackenbush.
HPU pushed one more across in the seventh on a Matthew,Daniel singled up the middle to score
Walker Dailey, 5-2 HPU.
Two walks, a single and two fielder's choice lead to three runs for Southwestern in the ninth and the 6-5 Pirate win.
Micah Thompson and
John Elmore each had two hits for the Jackets.
Dustin Kelver went four innings in the start striking out three and allowing two runs.
Tyler Colburn and Shawn Broday each had two innings in relief, Brody had four Ks.
Brandon Garrett came on in the ninth with the bases loaded to pick up the loss.
Howard Payne is now,12-20 overall and Southwestern stands at 16-15 overall. The Jackets will play next in a week and a half on April 24-25 versus the University of Texas at Tyler on the road.
