RICHARDSON, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's basketball team led from start to finish in a 68-57 conference victory over #22 University of Texas at Dallas Saturday afternoon at the UTD Activity Center.
With Howard Payne leading 14-13 after the first quarter, the Lady Jackets would outscore the Comets of UT-Dallas 45-21 over the next two quarters to lead 59-34 going into the fourth. HPU largest advantage in the game came with just :28 seconds left in the third when an
Erionna Brown layup gave the Lady Jackets a 59-32 lead.
Howard Payne held UT-Dallas to just 23% shooting (17-for-72) in the game and to just 14% (2-for-14) from behind the arc. The Lady Jackets were 22-for-51 (43.1%) from the field and 9-for-21 (42.9%) from long range.
Danyel Bradley finished with a game-high 22 points to lead three HPU players in double figures.
Yessenia Cazares finished with 12 points while
Jessica Leaks came off the bench for 10 points and four steals. Bradley recorded a double-double, adding a game-high 11 rebounds.
Presley McKethan had a game and career high seven assists off the bench and
Ashley Caldwell had a game high five blocks in the start.
UT-Dallas was led by Micaela Gonzalez with 18 points followed by Alyssa Crockett with 10.
Howard Payne is now 4-7 overall and 1-2 in American Southwest Conference action. In their first home loss of the season, UT-Dallas falls to 7-2 overall and 1-1 in ASC play. Howard Payne will play on Monday at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, AR at 5:30 pm
