ABILENE, Texas – The Howard Payne University women's basketball team forces 23 turnovers in an 87-52 loss to D-I Abilene Christian University Tuesday evening at the Moody Coliseum.
Senior
Sarahi Castillo led the Lady Jackets with 15 points and 12 rebounds followed by
Sabrina Ochoa in her Howard Payne debut with 12 points off the bench.
The ACU Wildcats jumped out to a 16-0 lead before a three-pointer by
Djimonii Jackson broke the drought for the Lady Jackets. HPU got the scoring going from that point to trail 25-13 at the end of the first quarter.
It remained about the same through the second quarter with ACU leading 41-27 at the half. ACU out rebounded Howard Payne 32-14 but HPU would force 17 ACU turnovers in the first half.
ACU start the second half the same as the first opening up a 62-33 lead after three quarters. ACU pulled away in the fourth quarter to win 87-52.
Micah Cisneroz finished with eight points and four steals to the Howard Payne numbers with
Presley McKethan adding seven points in the start.
ACU was led by Sydney Shelstead with 20 points, 11 rebounds and six steals. Pamela Herrera added 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Howard Payne starts the year at 0-1 and Abilene Christian stands at 1-1 overall. The Lady Jackets will play next on November 17th in Seguin, Texas versus Texas Lutheran University at 5:30 pm. Then continue their road trip playing at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas on Saturday the 19th at 2:00 pm.
