TYLER, Texas - The Howard Payne University baseball team fell 9-3 and 9-7 in a conference double header at the University of Texas at Tyler Saturday afternoon.

Seth Dohrman led the Jackets on the day going 4-for-6 at the plate with an RBI and three walks. Dohrman leads Howard Payne on the year with a .407 avg. Brett Quackenbush, Walker Dailey and Cody Brown each had three hits on the day.

The Jackets had tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fourth but it was a five-run sixth by UT-Tyler that put game one out of reach for Howard Payne, Adrian Acosta went 2.1 innings in the start allowing three runs on four hits. Jonathan George recorded the loss in relief allowing two runs on three hits in 3.1 innings. Boardman Adams and Nathan Weyrauch finished out the final frame.

In game two, the Jackets took a 7-6 lead after a two-run top of the sixth. UT-Tyler scored two in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead and one in the eighth to lead 9-7. HPU would have a runner on second and the tying run at the plate in the ninth  but a fly out to right field ended the Jackets comeback opportunity.

Joshua O'Conner had the no decision in the start going 3.1 innings and allowing six runs on just four hits. Shawn Brody recorded the loss in relief allowing two runs on five hits in 2.1 innings. Tyler Colburn threw 2.0 frames allowing one run on three hits. Zach Moseley threw the final .1 inning in the eighth recording one strike out.

Howard Payne is now 18-15 overall and 9-11 in American Southwest Conference play. UT-Tyler stands at 22-12 overall and 11-7 in league action. The Jackets will be at home on Wednesday for a non-conference double header with Dallas Christian College at Don Shepard Park starting at 1:00 pm.
