GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – The Howard Payne University baseball team took three of four from non-conference opponent Arlington Baptist College this weekend at Quick Trip Park.
Howard Payne improved to 15-10 overall and the year while Arlington Baptist fell to 14-28 after the weekend series. The Jackets will have another non-conference outing on Wednesday versus the University of the Southwest. It will be a double header starting at 2:00 pm at Don Shepard Park.
Friday Game One
The Jackets jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after their first at bat. HPU added runs in the third, fourth and sixth. Starter
Kyle Ramon and reliever
Zach Moseley held ABC to just three total hits. Ramon improved to 3-2 on the year striking out six in five innings.
Brandon Garrett led the Jackets going 4-for-4 from the plate and
Noah Payne followed with a 2-for-3 outing.
Friday Game Two
Down 1-0 going into the third, the Jackets posted three runs and never looked back. HPU would have a five-run fourth, two-run fifth and a three-run sixth going on to claim the 14-3 victory.
Joshua O'Conner recorded his first win as a Jacket in the start allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out three in five innings.
Nathan Weyrauch would throw the final two frames striking out three.

Seth Dohrman and
Cody Cain each recorded two hits for the Jackets in the game. Dohrman had 3 RBIs and Payne and
Cliff Lunceford each added 2 RBIs.
Saturday Game One
After leading 5-1 going into the bottom of the fifth, ABC posted a three-run fifth and four-run sixth to take the lead 8-6.
After a
Cody Brown sac fly brought the Jackets to within one in the top of the seventh, HPU would have the go ahead run at the plate and a runner on first but a strike out ended the Jacket rally.
Shawn Brody got the loss in relief after the
Adrian Acosta start. Acosta when 5.0 innings and struckout four. Brody saw just .2 innings and
Jonathan George threw the final .1 inning. Payne, Dohrman and Lunceford each had two hits.
Saturday Game Two
The Jackets opened up a 9-0 advantage after four scoring two in the second, five in the third and two in the fourth. HPU would cruise from that point to a 12-8 victory.
Tyler Colburn improved to 3-3 on the year in the start allowing three runs on three hits and striking out seven.
Chad Anders saw .2 inning of work striking out two and
Boardman Adams threw .1 inning with a strikeout.
Zach Moseley threw the final frame not allowing a hit.

Brett Quackenbush each finished with two hits.
