BROWNWOOD, Texas: The Howard Payne Lady Jackets defeated the Lady Bulldogs of Texas Lutheran on Tuesday night, Oct. 23, by a score of 3-2 (22-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-20, 15-13).

A match that was an intense battle until the last point was finally put away by HPU on a powerful kill by Kylie Metcalf. 

After TLU took the first set, HPU answered taking the next two. Set three, in which HPU started up 7-0, came close at the end. Set four was full of some solid play by the Lady Bulldogs to force set five. 

Set five went back and forth while Zhartaezia Bradley and Mya Ross controlled the net, blocking attempts, and finishing the game off with some solid kills. All in all, the Lady Jackets shut the door and came away with their 5th victory of the year.

Mya and Zhartaezia led the match with 16 and 13 kills apiece. Tae also tallied up 9 blocks, her second highest of the season. Kylee Shirley added 25 digs along with Mya Ross finishing with 22. McKenna Walker also finished with a season high of 41 assists. 

Howard Payne is now 5-21 with one match left to play and TLU dropped to 8-19.

The Lady Jackets will finish the season out next Tuesday here at The Brownwood Coliseum against The University of the Southwest. The match will begin with honoring sole senior, Zhartaezia Bradley. The match will begin at 6:00 pm. For live stats and video visit HPUSports.com.
