KERRVILLE, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's basketball team used 48.7% shooting from the three-point line to down Schreiner University 77-63 Tuesday evening on the road.
Howard Payne would finish the game 11 of 23 (48.7%) from behind the arc while holding Schreiner to just 35% shooting from the field. The Lady Jackets also held the rebounding advantage in the game 48-39 over the Mountaineers.
With HPU up 21-10 at the end of the first quarter, Schreiner put together a run in the second to erase the Lady Jacket lead to 31-30 at the half.
HPU slowly pull away in the second half and would lead by as much as 19 points with just under two minutes left in the game before the 77-63 final.
With four players scoring double digits, Howard Payne was led by
Chelsey Harris with 15 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
Salina Ali and
Payge Grable each added 11 points, Ali had a game high four assists and Grable was 3 of 4 from behind the arc with four steals.
Anastasia Willis had 10 points and
Caprica Brooks grabbed a team high eight rebounds.
The Lady Jackets are now 3-4 overall and Schreiner falls to 0-7 on the year. HPU will have its home opener on Saturday, Dec. 1st versus UT Dallas. It will be a 1:00 pm tip off in the Brownwood Coliseum.
