BELTON, Texas - Howard Payne University's
Blake Null recorded six RBIs in a doubleheader split for the Yellow Jackets at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Monday evening.
Game One
In the top of the first,
Blake Null singled to left field to plate
Noah Payne and
Joshua Gerig who both walked to get on base. Mary Hardin-Baylor would take a 3-2 lead with a three-run bottom of the first.
Blake Null had a sacrifice fly in the third to score
Noah Payne tying the game a 3-3. UMHB would score one in the bottom of the sixth ending in the 4-3 seven inning final.
Joshua Gerig,
David Groves and
Blake Null each recorded a hit with Null accounting for all three of HPU's RBIs.
Seth Owen got the no-decision in the start going 4.0 innings allowing three runs on six hits and striking out four.
Shawn Brody posted the loss in relief throwing 2.0 innings and striking out one.
Game Two
Blake Null again started the HPU scoring in the first with a three-run home run to left field to give him six RBIs on the day.Â
After UMHBÂ answered with a two-run second,
David Groves walked with the bases loaded to plate Null and give the Jackets a 4-2 lead in the third inning.
UMHBÂ had an RBI single in the fifth to pull within one again, 4-3, before the Jackets scored two in the sixth to give themselves a 6-3 cushion.
Noah Coronado's sac scored
David Groves and then a
Joshua Gerig single to right field plated
Jay Holland in the sixth.
Dylan Vilaros would strikeout three in the final two frames to pick up the save for the Yellow Jackets. Vilaros allowed two runs on two hits and walked one.
Preston Newman had a no-decision in the start for HPU allowing two runs on three hits in three innings.
Jonathan George recorded the win in relief allowing one run on two hits in two innings of work.
Joshua Gerrig went 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI.
Blake Null was 1-for-3 with 3 RBIs.
Jay Holland and
Noah Coronado each recorded a hit.
Howard Payne is now 5-1 overall and Mary Hardin-Baylor stands at 2-4 on the year. The Yellow Jackets will play next in Tucson, AZ in the Tucson Invitational Tour. HPU will have a doubleheader versus Gustavus Adolphus College on March 2nd starting at 1:00 pm central. HPU will play Wheaton College on March 3rd at 12:00 noon central and Rockford University at 7:30 pm central that same day.
