BROWNWOOD, Texas - Howard Payne University's
Jay Holland came home on a wild pitch to give the Yellow Jackets a 4-3 walk-off victory over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Tuesday afternoon at Don Shepard Park.
Jay Holland led off the bottom of the ninth with a triple to right field and would eventually come home on a wild pitch to give Howard Payne the 4-3 non-conference win over Mary Hardin-Baylor.
In a game that saw the Jackets use seven different pitchers, the HPU pitching staff would hold UMHBÂ to three runs on seven hits.
Evan Rodriguez (1-1) got the victory for HPU in relief throwing the final frame.
Shawn Brody went 3.0 innings in the start allowing one run on four hits and striking out one.
Vernon Hart threw 2.0 innings allowing one hit and one run and
Graham White went one inning allowing no hits.
Kory Owen went .1 innings and
Jacob Ford went .2 innings.
John Killough threw the eighth inning allowing no hits.
Jay Holland led at the plate going 2-for-3 and
Noah Payne followed with a 2-for-5 outing.
Howard Payne improves to 18-12 on the year and Mary Hardin-Baylor falls to 9-20 overall. The Jackets will travel to Austin, Texas this weekend for a conference series versus Concordia University Texas.
