AUSTIN, Texas - The Howard Payne University baseball team fell 6-3 and 15-7 to American Southwest conference leader Concordia University Texas Saturday afternoon.
Game One
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second when
Noah Payne tripled to right field scoring
Jay Holland and
Benjamin Lewis.
After a three-run third for Concordia, Howard Payne tied the game in the top of the next inning on a
John Killough double to right field to plate Holland.
Single run innings for Concordia over the next three frams led to the 6-3 final for the Tornados.
Jay Holland led HPU going 2-for-2 at the plate.Â
Seth Owen (6-1) picked up his first loss of the season in the complete game start, Owen allowed six runs on five hits and struckout five.
Game Two
Concordia held an 11-1 advantage after three innings powered by a seven-run third.Â

Hunter Bazan single to right field in the first brought home
David Groves for the Jackets first run of the game. A
Jacob Rodriguez groundout brought home Bazan in the fourth.
Bailey Smith hit a 2 RBI double to center field in the seventh and the Jackets scored three on bases loaded walks in the eighth.
Four different Jackets recorded hits and four different Jackets were hit by pitches.
Bailey Smith and
Jay Holland each had a double.
Dylan Vilaros (3-3) got the loss in the start allowing 11 runs on 8 hits in 2.1 innings.
Shawn Brody saw 2.2 innings in relief allowing one run on four hits striking out three.
Wesley Smith threw 1.2 innings allowing three runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
Preston Newman went the final 1.1 striking out one.

Howard Payne is now 18-14 overall and 6-11 in American Southwest Conference action. Concordia stands at 22-11 overall and 15-5 in league play. The two teams will finish out the weekend series with a single game on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
