Sherman, Texas- The Howard Payne Lady Jacket Volleyball team dropped two non-conference matches versus Division II Ouachita Baptist University and Austin College on Tuesday, Sept. 25
th.
HPU fell 3-0 to OBU by scores of 25-17, 25-16, and 25-14.
Zhartaezia Bradley led the match with 8 kills and 3 blocks.
McKenna Walker added 22 assists while
Kylee Shirley racked up 13 digs.
The second match of the evening was a dog fight. The Roos of Austin College started off hot against the Lady Jackets taking the first set 25-14. Then HPU took the second set in similar fashion at 25-17. The third and fourth sets were back and forth, with both teams holding multiple leads, but AC came out on top taking the match 3-1 (25-14, 17-25, 25-21, 25-19).
Mya Ross led the offense in this one with 9 kills followed by
Ashley Hessler's 7.
Kylie Metcalf had a phenomenal game at the net with 11 blocks,
McKenna Walker had 21 assists, and
Mya Ross and
Christian Wilson tried to keep the floor clean with 16 digs a piece.
Howard Payne dropped to 2-11 on the season and stayed at 1-5 in conference play.
The Lady Jackets will be traveling to away courts this weekend with match ups at Mary-Hardin Baylor and Concordia. They will play Friday evening in Belton, Texas at UMHB starting at 6:00pm then Saturday they'll travel down I35 to Austin, Texas and will battle Concordia at 2:00pm.
