SEGUIN, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's basketball posted a 51 point second half to claim a 78-69 victory at Texas Lutheran University Friday evening in non-conference action.
After being down 33-27 at the half, Howard Payne scored 51 points in the second sparked by 58% shooting from the field. HPU finished the game shooting 53.6% from the field and 48.3% from three-point range.
Down by as much as 13 points at the start of the second half, HPU slowly got back into the game and then used a 15-2 run starting at the 6:00 mark to regain the lead and secure the win.
The Yellow Jackets won the rebounding battle 41-33 and held the Bulldogs to just 25% shooting from behind the arc (4 of 16). HPU went 7 of 16 from three-point range, led by
Luke Cox's 3 of 6 shooting from long distance.
Howard Payne was led by
Tyrell Thompson with 17 points and six rebounds.
Jase Miguez followed with 16 points, he was 7 of 7 from the free-throw line.
Joshua Taylor ended with 10 points and six rebounds.
Jaylan Ballou dished out a game high six assists and
Timothy Aguero grabbed a team high 10 rebounds.
TLU was led by Sebastian Andrade with 24 points followed by Caleb Lister with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
