SHERMAN, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's basketball team opened the 2019-20 season with a 98-59 loss at Austin College Friday evening.
Tyrell Thompson and
Jase Miguez led the Yellow Jackets with 14 and 11 points respectively. Thompson also grabbed a team high eight rebounds for the Jackets.
Howard Payne struggled offensively in the first half connecting on 27%Â of shots leading to a 47-25 halftime lead for Austin College.
The Jackets improved in the second half hitting 37.1% from the field but with Austin College shooting over 50% in the second it would end in a 98-59 Austin College final.
Kyle Kildare grabbed a team high eight rebounds followed by
Joshua Taylor with seven boards.
Timothy Aguero finished with a game high six assists with
Jaylan Ballou adding five assists and eight points.
Austin College was led by Michael Holland with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Luke Brumbaugh followed with 16 points.
Howard Payne will play next on Monday Nov. 11th at Division-I UT-Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, Texas at 7:00 pm.
