Brownwood, Texas - The Yellow Jacket Baseball Club hosted the War Hawks of McMurry in a double header. The Jackets split with the War Hawks dropping game one 4-1 and dominating game two 9-4.
Game 1
After getting out to an early 1-0 lead when
Cliff Lunceford scored on an error, a 4 run 6
th inning put the game away for the War Hawks.
5 Jacket batters had one hit in the contest with
Nolyn Box and
Jacob Salazar recording doubles.
Seth Owen got the start for the Jackets and dealt 4.1 innings giving up 5 hits while striking out 5.
Johnny Cravey got the loss giving up 3 earned runs in his 1/3 of an inning striking out 1.
Game 2
McMurry jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the 2
nd scoring, 3 of those earned. The Jackets battled back for the rest of the game scoring two in the 4
th on a
Manny Torralba three bagger that scored
Stephen Prewitt and
Nolyn Box.
The Jackets took a 6-4 lead in the 6
th thanks to some while pitches, a walk and a sac fly from
Kade Coleman. Howard Payne put the nail in the coffin with a 3 run 7
th and took the series 2-1.
Manny Torralba led the Jackets with 2 runs batted in and scoring twice,
Stephen Prewitt also crossed the plate 3 times.
Bryson Lyro, freshman pitcher out of The Colony, Texas, went the distance tossing a complete game. He gave up 5 hits over the 9 innings and struck out 5. He gave up 4 runs, 3 earned, in the 2
nd, but shutout the War Hawks the rest of the way.
Howard Payne improves to 2-6 while McMurry drops to 3-3 on the season. The Jackets will be back at The Don on Tuesday, Feb 19
th, in a double header match up against Schriner. The first pitch will be at 12:00 pm.
