BROWNWOOD, Texas - Howard Payne University's Jase Miguez had a 40 point night for the second time this season in a 101-96 overtime loss to Belhaven University Thursday evening in the Brownwood Coliseum.

HPU's Jase Miguez scored 41 points on 16 of 25 shooting leading the Yellow Jacket second half charge. 

Down by 23 points at the start of the second half, the Yellow Jackets outscored Belhaven 52-32 shooting 69.7% from the field in the second period.

With five second remaining in regulation, HPU's Jacob Smith drove the length of the floor and scored on a layup at the buzzer for the Jackets to force overtime.

Despite shooting over 60% from the field in the second period and overtime, the Jackets were outscored 21-16 in the overtime period leading to the 101-96 final.

Following Miguez' 41 points was Joshua Taylor and Jacob Smith with 11 points each. Tyrell Thompson added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Luke Coach led Belhaven with 28 points followed by Brosnan Cooke with 22 points.

Howard Payne is now 1-10 overall and 0-2 in American Southwest Conference play. Behaven stands at 4-6 overall and 1-0 in league action. The Jackets will play again on Saturday at home versus conference opponent Louisiana College at 3:00 pm.
