MARSHALL, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's basketball team got a game-high 19 points from
Tyrell Thompson in an 87-68 loss at East Texas Baptist University Monday evening in non -conference action.
HPU's
Tyrell Thompson led the Yellow Jackets in scoring for the second consecutive game, this time scoring 19, on 8 of 12 shooting, and pulling down a team high 9 rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets started the game strong jumping out to an early lead. It would be a 14-2 run by ETBU midway through the first half that would lead the Tigers a 43-24 halftime advantage.
HPU started the second half scoring the first five points but the Tigers pulled away again from that point going on to secure the 87-68 final.
With both teams shooting around 40% from the field in the game, it would be ETBUÂ out rebounding HPU 49-35 that was a major factor in the outcome.

Michael House scored nine off the bench for the Jackets on 4 of 8 shooting.
ETBU was led by Jayden Williams with 19 points and Landin Brown with 13 rebounds.
Howard Payne is now 0-2 on the year and ETBU stands at 2-0 overall. The Yellow Jackets will play next on Nov. 28th at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. It will be a 4:00 pm start time.
