BROWNWOOD, Texas - Howard Payne University's
Tyrell Thompson posted his first double double of the season in an 88-63 loss to Sul Ross State University in HPU's league opener Saturday afternoon.

Tyrell Thompson recorded 19 points and a game high 12 rebounds. He was 7 of 14 from the field and 4 of 6 from the free-throw line.
Sul Ross jumped out to an early lead and held a 45-29 advantage at the break. The Jackets rallied to start the second half, starting the period with a 7-0 run.
The Lobos then pushed their lead to as much as 28 points on the way to the 88-63 final.
Following Thompson's 19 points was
James Helzer and Jacon Smith adding nine points each. Smith also dished out four assists.
Sul Ross' Triston Licon led all scorers with 25 points. Omar Boone followed Licon with 14 points for the Lobos.
Howard Payne is now 0-3 overall and Sul Ross State stands at 3-3 on the year. The Yellow Jackets will play next on Dec. 15th at East Texas Baptist in Marshall, Texas. It will be a 3:00 pm start time.
