Jackets Split with Tigers, Take Series 2-1

Marshall, Texas - The Howard Payne Baseball Club split an ASC double header with ETBU dropping game one 3-9 and winning game two 8-4.

Game One

The first game of the double header did not fall in the Jackets favor after ETBU scored nine runs in the 6th inning.

After RJ Roberts scored the first run in the contest on a one run homer in the 4th, ETBU exploded for nine runs in the 6th. HPU tried to battle back in the 7th after Wylan Kolts dropped a pinch hit two run bomb and brough it to 9-3, but that's where it would stay.

Five Jackets recorded one hit and Kolts led the offense with 2 RBIs.

Jeramy Dodson got the loss after lasting five innings and giving up four runs, three earned, while striking out six. He only allowed one hit. Bryant Chambers gave up one hit and four runs, two earned, while walking two and Johnny Cravey would go one inning, only allowing one hit and one run, while striking out two.  

Game Two

HPU started the scoring off in the 1st going up 1-0 on an RBI single by Noah Coronado that plated Joey Villarreal. ETBU would even the score at 1-1 after the 1st and then take a 2-1 lead in the 3rd.

Nolyn Box would tie it up at 2-2 with a solo shot in the 4th. Carson Wert would also add an RBI triple in the 4th, scoring Seth Stephens. Wert would later come around to score on a fielder's choice making the score 4-2.

In the 6th, RJ Roberts would blast a three-run shot to score Jonathan McKay and Coronado, but ETBU would add one that inning as well to make it 7-3. The Jackets would add to their lead in the 7th on an RBI single by Villarreal to plate David Paleo. The Tigers would cross one in the 9th, but the score would end in the Jacket's favor 8-4.   

Five Jackets recorded two hits and RJ Roberts led the offense with three RBIs.

Kyle Purdes dealt as he went eight innings while only giving up six hits and three runs, two earned, while striking out six. Landin Blass threw the last inning and gave up one run.

The Jackets now sit at 5-6, 2-1 in ASC play, and will prepare to head home to host the YellowJackets of LeTourneau University staring on Friday of next week, The first pitch will be at 1:00 pm.
