Box Score 2 Houston, Texas - The Howard Payne Baseball Club split with the University of St. Thomas in a Saturday double header 7-11 and 7-3.
Game OneÂ
Five errors led to an 11-7 loss in the first game of the double header.
After scoring in the 1st, the Jackets wouldn't score again until the 5th on a Nolyn Box double that scored Keldon Crawford. Rylee McGee then singled and brought home Box which was followed by an Jonathan McKay single that plated David Berzins.
The Celts added  to their 8-4 lead in the 5th on a wild pitch and an error. Kade Coleman roped a ball over the left field fence to bring home three Jackets, but 11-7 is where the score would stay.
Four Jackets would tally two hits and Kade Coleman would lead the offense with three RBIs and a homerun.
Jeramy Dodson would get his first collegiate start and only last three innings due to three of HPU's 5 errors happening behind him. Johnny Cravey would toss an inning giving up one run while striking out one. Nick Diaz would throw one inning giving up two runs, one earned and Ty Garner threw one inning giving up one run.
Game Two
Even though the Jackets tallied three errors, a six run 2nd inning would propel Howard Payne to a win in game two.
A wild pitch got the scoring started in the 2nd followed by Cade Varrichio's patience to draw a bases loaded walk. Carson Wert would then double to left center scoring Zach Gingrich and Mark Willoughby. Another wild pitch would score Varrichio and then Joey Villarreal would single home Wert.
Collin Davis would hit a SAC fly in the 5th to put the Jackets up 7-0, and the Celts would finally cross home with three in the 6th.
Four Jackets tallied one hit apiece and Carson Wert led the team in RBIs with two.
Kyle Purdes would get the nod for the Jackets going five scoreless innings while giving up seven hits and one run, unearned, while striking out one. Landin Blass tossed one inning, giving up two runs and striking out one. Kory Owen would throw a scoreless inning to end the game.
