ALPINE, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's basketball team fell 76-65 to Sul Ross State University Thursday evening in conference play.
Howard Payne was led by
Chelsey Harris with 20 points on 7 of 14 shooting from the field followed by
Amanda Turpin with 10 points and five rebounds.
Shooting 25% from the field in the first half, the Lady Jackets struggled to recover from a 16-point halftime deficit. HPU made a strong push in the final quarter pulling to within six, 66-60 with 5:05 remaining in the game.
HPU would shoot over 40% from the field in the second half and outscore the Sul Ross in the final two quarters.
Kendra Brown finished with nine points and
Payge Grable and
Salina Ali with added seven points each.
Sul Ross was led by Vania Hampton with 30 points and 14 rebounds.
The Lady Jackets will have their final home game of the regular season this Saturday versus Sul Ross State. It will be a 1:00 pm game time.
