JACKSON, Mississippi- The Howard Payne University volleyball team defeated conference opponent Belhaven University 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
After falling behind 2-0 to start the set, the Lady Jackets never trailed again, taking the set 25-22.
Howard Payne fell behind 6-1 at the beginning of the second set but went on a 4-0 run to get back within two. The Lady Jackets were behind 18-17 and went on an 8-0 run to win the set 25-18.
The third set was a close battle, and HPU ended up on top 25-21 to claim the 3-0 road victory.
Mya Ross led the Lady Jackets with a game-high 11 kills and 12 digs.
Rylee Spencer had three blocks, followed by
Amaya Marshall, and
Mitsue Rodriguez with two.
Kaitlyn Elsten had 12 assists.
Izabella Erickson had six kills for Belhaven, and Grace Laukhuf had 11 assists.Â
With today's win, the Lady Jackets improve to 2-6 on the season and 1-3 in conference play. Howard Payne will play Austin College at home on Tuesday, Sept. 21, in the Brownwood Coliseum at 6:00 PM.
