CLEBURNE, Texas - The Howard Payne University baseball team claimed a 7-4 non-conference win over Austin College Tuesday evening at Railroader Stadium.
Howard Payne took advantage of four Austin College errors scoring seven runs on seven hits.
Stephen Prewitt and
Luke Brock each went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Jackets.
Joey Villarreal recorded a double and
William Burford had a triple.
The Yellow Jackets used eight pitchers in the game and held the Roos to just five total hits on the night.
Gary Blair recorded the win in the start for HPU going 2.2 innings and allowing just one hit.
Koby Hasty and
Cyah Daniel each went .2 innings in relief.
Ty Garner, Jason Hollingsworth, and
JT Howard, and
Nicholas Richards each saw 1.0 of action, Hollingsworth had two strikeouts and Richards recorded three strikeouts.
Bryant Chambers threw the final frame and recorded the save,
Howard Payne is now 3-8 overall and Austin College stands at 0-6 on the year. The Yellow Jackets will have a road conference series this weekend at Belhaven University in Jackson, MS.
