Yellow Jackets Split Double-Header With Cru

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University baseball team split its double-header 9-6 and 4-11 versus the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday afternoon to wrap up the 2022 season.

Game One
The Yellow Jackets used a seven-run third to open up a 9-2 advantage over the Cru. Sparked by a three-run homer by Trevor Fletcher, HPU also got RBI singles from RJ Roberts, Will Iannacone, and Samuel Lampson as well as a RBI double from William Burford to round out the third inning scoring.

HPU's Rylee McGee was 3-for-4 at the plate. Carson Wert, Joey Villarreal, Burford and Fletcher each finished with two hits in the game.

Landin Blass recorded the complete game win for HPU allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out three.

Game Two
UMHB recorded a six-run third inning that the Jackets would not be able to recover from falling 4-11 in the second game of the double-header.

HPU got three of its four runs in the sixth, one on a RBI double by Rylee McGee and then a two RBI single by Trevor Fletcher. Landin Blass recorded a RBI single to score Carson Wert in the eighth.

Burford, Wert, and Fletcher each recorded two hits for the Jackets in the game.

Kyle Purdes posted the loss in the start for HPU allowing nine runs on 11 hits and striking out two in 5.0 innings of work. Harlee Biggs saw one inning of action and Dean Evans threw the final two frames for the Jackets.

The Yellow Jackets finish the season at 11-29 overall and 7-23 in American Southwest Conference play.
