BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University baseball team fell 9-0 in its conference series opener against Sul Ross State University Friday afternoon at Don Shepard Park.
Sul Ross State outhit Howard Payne 15-8 in the game scoring multiple runs in the fourth and seventh innings. In was a four-run fourth for Sul Ross State that opened the game up giving the Lobos a 6-0 advantage.

Joey Villarreal each recorded two-hits for the Yellow Jackets.
HPU Kyles Purdes received the loss in the start for the Yellow Jackets allowing six runs on eight hits in 3.0 innings of work.
Brendan Read and
Bryant Chambers each saw 3.0 inning of action in relief. Read struckout four for HPU.
Howard Payne is now 8-20 overall and 4-15 in American Southwest Conference action. Sul Ross State stands at 11-14 overall and 8-11 in league play. The two teams will finish out the series on Saturday with a double-header starting at 1:00 pm.
