BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University baseball team split its conference double-header with Sul Ross State University 10-11 and 14-11 Saturday afternoon at Don Shepard Park.
The Yellow Jackets outhit the Lobos in both game 14-10 in game one and 16-12 in game two.Â
Game One
Sul Ross used a seven-run sixth inning to gain a 10-7 lead. Howard Payne scored one in the bottom of the inning and two in the next but fell 11-10 in game one of the double-header.
HPU's
Rylee McGee was big in the game going 4-for-5 at the plate recording three RBI with one home run and one double.
Joey Villarreal finished 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI.
Derek Gifford and
RJ Roberts each finished with two hits. Gifford had a triple and Roberts a double.
Chandler Paul had the no decision in the start for HPU allowing three runs one four hits striking out five in 4.1 innings of work.
D'Andrey Silva and
Jasen Hollingsworth each threw .2 innings. Hollingsworth recorded the loss.
Harlee Biggs and
Dean Evans each saw time in relief for the Jackets.
Game Two
The Jackets used a four-run fourth and sixth innings to cruise to an 14-11Â victory.Â
Outhitting the Lobos 14-11 in the game, the Jackets expanded their lead to 14-6 going into the ninth, but a five-run final frame for the Lobos brought the score 14-11 final.

William Burford finished with a home run and a double going 5-for-6 at the plate with five RBI.
Derek Gifford was 3-for-5 with a triple.
Rylee McGee,
RJ Roberts, and
Merek Hawthorne each had two hits in the game.
Gary Blair recorded the win in the start for the Jackets allowing six runs on six hits and striking out seven in 7.0 innings of action.
Landin Blass threw 1.2 innings allowing five runs on four hits and
Bryant Chambers went the final .1 inning to finish the game.
The Yellow Jackets will play next on April 14-15 at the University of Texas at Dallas, a single on Thursday at 2:00 pm and a double-header on Friday starting at 1:00 pm.
