Howard Payne
The Yellow Jackets improved to 2-0 overall after a 42-10 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God last week at home. HPU held SAGU to under 300 yards of total offense and to just 84 yards rushing while picking off four Lion passes.
 
The Yellow Jacket defense after two games is holding opposing offenses to 6.5 points per game and just 50.5 rushing yards per game while the HPU secondary has recorded five interceptions.
 
Safety Korey Kelley leads the Jacket defense with 18 tackles and two interceptions on the year and cornerback Kadarious Carr has recorded five pass breakups over the two games.
 
Javian Myles is HPU's top rusher with 136 yards and one touchdown. Gus Charles and Jordan Carroll are the Jackets' top receivers with 163 and 126 yards respectively. Deon Collins has added two TD receptions.
 
After this weekend's game, Howard Payne will have an open week before traveling to Hardin-Simmons in Abilene, Texas on Sept. 30^th.
 
Lyon College
In the last two games, Lyon quarterback Brady Miller has thrown for 441 yards and has three passing touchdowns and a rushing score. The Scots are (1-1) on the season having defeated Grinnell College 18-12 and lost to Belhaven University 48-15 last week.
 
The Scots defense is led by Keidrick Wooten, Nate Sarver, and Slayton Wheeler. All three of those Lyon defenders have at least two sacks apiece heading into this third game.
 
This is the first season for the Scots to play in the Division III ranks after making the transition from the Sooner Athletic Conference in the NAIA. Lyon is playing as an Independent Division III squad this season, with hopes of entering a conference in 2024.
