HOWARD PAYNE
Last week at East Texas Bapist, the Yellow Jackets got touchdowns from five different players in a 42-33 road loss to the Tigers. 

HPU's Zy Gravitt led Howard Payne's passing attack with 325 yards through the air, tossing four touchdowns and one interception. Blessing Ngene paced the Yellow Jackets rushing attack by accumulating 89 yards over the course of the game, averaging 4.7 yards per carry. Ngene also tacked on 25 receiving yards and one touchdown. Gus Charles reeled in 10 catches for 150 yards and one score. 

Charles continues to be the top receiving target in the league with 31 catches, 585 yards, and 146.3 yards per game. The Jackets also have Jackson Meller in the top five with 55.8 yards per game and a league best 23.3 yards per catch.

QB Zy Gravitt leads the ASC in total passing yards (1,514) and ytards per game (302.8).

HPU has four on defense in the top tem in tackles in the league, Kale Shaw 37 (4th), Jacob Korrodi 35 (7th), KC Cornelious and Peyton Lowe with 30 each (9th).

UMHB has won the last 16 meetings between the two programs, Howard Payne's last win versus the Cru was 24-20 in Brownwood in 2005.

MARY HARDIN-BAYLOR
UMHB is coming off a 44-21 loss to Hardin-Simmons at home. QB Isaac Phe got the start last week versus the Cowboys but look for Jake Wright who played plenty recent to see time of UMHB versus HPU.

Kamerin Ferguson leads the rushing attach for the Cru with 359 yards and four TDs. Christopher Gacayan, AJ Williams, and Jerry Day will be the top receivers for UMHB.

The Cru's top defender will be Durand Hill with 38 tackles and 2 sacks on the year. Da'Marion Morris and Gavin Brzezinski will also be in the mix for UMHB.

UMHB offense is averaging 27.3 ppg while the defense is allowing 27.0 ppg.  

AROUND THE AMERICAN SOUTHWEST CONFERENCE
The Hardin-Simmons University football team moved up one spot to number five as they represent the American Southwest Conference in both the D3football.com Top 25 Poll and the American Football Coaches Association DIII Coaches Poll.

Hardin-Simmons ranks 5th in the D3football.com poll with 518 points and 5th in the AFCA poll. The Cowboys traveled to Belton on Saturday in a top 25 matchup against UMHB. The Cowboys shut the Cru out through the first three quarters. UMHB scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, but the offensive surge was not enough to overcome the deficit, giving HSU the 44-21 win.

Mary Hardin-Baylor is ranked 23rd in the D3football.com poll with 106 points. American Southwest Conference football action returns on Saturday, October 19th with three contests.

WEEK 6 RECAP

No. 6 Hardin-Simmons earned a 44-21 win over No. 13 Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton. The Cowboys shut the Cru out through the first three quarters. UMHB scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, but the offensive surge was not enough to overcome the deficit.  
 
Howard Payne and East Texas Baptist competed in Marshall on Saturday. The Tigers used a 35-yard rush with 1:43 left in the fourth quarter to secure the 42-33 victory.
