HOUSTON, Texas – The Howard Payne Men's Golf Team placed 9
th overall at the Space City Classic hosted by Gus Wortham Park in Hosuton, Texas on Monday and Tuesday. The normal women's team played as individuals at the meet as well.
Blaine Onick was the top golfer in the meet for the team, placing T-36
th with a score of 230 (81, 74, 75).
Grant Drummond placed T-41
th overall with a score of 233 (77, 84, 72).
Mason Guinn (78, 81, 80) and
Kaden Potter (82, 79, 78) each competed aggressively during the meet and had a teammate tie, with both placing 47th overall. Jaxson Hermesmeyer rounded out the Men's team with a total score of 240 (82, 80, 78) which landed him at a 49
th place finish.
On the woman's side, HPU saw three Lady Jackets compete at the Space City Classic.
With no surprise, Amada Menchaca led the Women once again with her brilliant play, scoring a 186 (97, 89) and placing 39th. Emilee Garcia saw some success on the course as well, placing 46th overall with a score of 223 (114,109). Rounding out the individuals on the women's side, Anisa Alfaro placed 47th with a score of 294 (148,146).
The team saw a lot of improvement from previous weeks, with many golfers recording season-low scores.
The Yellow Jackets will travel to Bossier City, Louisiana for the Hal Sutton Invitational hosted by The Golf Club at Stonebridge, which is scheduled for March 17-18.
