BOSSIER CITY, Louisiana – The Howard Payne Men's Golf Team placed 6
th overall at the Hal Sutton Invitational hosted by the Golf Club at Stonebridge in Bossier City, Lousinana this past Monday and Tuesday. The Woman's team ended up placing T-5th for the meet.
Grant Drummond was the top golfer in the meet for the team, placing T-18th with a score of 155 (78, 77). Drummond stayed consistent throughout the meet and has found his rhythm here of late ending with his first top-20 finish.
Miken Hernandez placed T-24
th overall with a score of 158 (82, 76).
Blaine Onick, who usually leads the team, but had some trouble finding his usual control in Bossier City. He laced third for the team and T-30th overall with a score of 163 (80, 83). Jaxson Hermesmeyer fell right behind Onick at T-32 with a score of 164 (82, 82) and
Mason Guinn rounded out the Men's side with a placement of 36th and a score of 166 (87,79). Guinn started off rough, but found his groove in the later round and shot a very respectable +7.
On the woman's side, HPU saw their three normal Lady Jackets competing at a high level.
Once again,
Amada Menchaca led the Women's Team, scoring a 187 (91, 96) and placing 21st.
Emilee Garcia saw much improvement at the meet, placing 32nd with a score of 233 (116, 117). Rounding out the Ladies was
Anisa Alfaro, who placed 33rd with a score of 308 (163, 145). It's worthy to note that Alfaro took 18 strokes off her round one score in the second.
The Yellow Jackets will travel to the state capital to compete in the Linda Lowery Invitational, hosted by Concordia (TX)! The meet will be held on March 24th-25th.
