ABILENE, Texas – A late run by McMurry University downed the Howard Payne women's basketball team 62-56 Thursday evening in non-conference action.
With Howard Payne leading 53-51 with 4:55 minutes remaining, McM went on an 11-2 run in the closing minutes to take the game 62-56.
The Lady Jackets led McMurry 30-24 at the half after forcing 15 turnovers in the opening period. HPU's largest lead was at 10:49 mark of the first, 19-10.
The Lady Jackets were 3 of 6 from the free-throw line for the game while McMurry was 21 of 29. McMurry also outrebounded HPU 51-38.
Howard Payne was led by
Danyel Bradley with 16 points, six rebounds and five steals.
Yessenia Cazares had nine,
Sarah Van Remmen had eight and
Jessica Leaks scored seven off the bench.
Taylor Russell led McMurry with a game high 20 points and 13 rebounds. Tayler Boroson had 12 points and Haley Welch followed with 11.
Howard Payne stands at 6-5 overall and McMurry is now 2-15 overall on the year. The Lady Jackets will play next on Saturday at home versus conference opponent Louisiana College at 1:00 pm.
