SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's basketball team lost 78-65 after a late run by the University of the Incarnate Word Monday evening in non-conference action.

Howard Payne gave Division-I Incarnate Word more than it wanted leading 23-19 after the first quarter and only down two, 42-40 at the break. The Lady Jackets then outscored Incarnate Word 15-12 in the third to lead 55-54 going into the fourth.

After the 13th tie of the game, 62-62 with 6:14 remaining in the fourth, Incarnate Word would score two straight buckets to pull ahead 66-62. Then a Erionna Brown jumper pulled the Lady Jackets to within two with under four minutes to play.

With the score 66-64 and 3:44 left in the game, Incarnate Word would outscore the Lady Jackets 12-1 in the closing minutes to claim the 78-65 win.

Despite being out rebounded 53-29 in the game, the Lady Jackets forced 23 UIW turnovers, leading UIW 31-22 in points off turnovers. HPU also held UIW to just 1-for-13 shooting from behind the arc.

Danyel Bradley led HPU with a game high 27 points, she was 9-for-9 from the free-throw line. Jessica Leaks had a great game for the Lady Jackets scoring 11 with a game high four steals off the bench. Sarahi Castillo had a team high seven rebounds and Jada Evans added nine points off the bench.

Brianna Williams led UIW with 20 points. Quincy Baker had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Aricka Adams and Jordan Franks each added 10 points.

Howard Payne is now 1-3 overall on the year. Incarnate Word stands at 3-1 overall. The Lady Jackets will play next on Tuesday at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas starting at 6:00 pm.
