BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne baseball team dropped its conference double header with Concordia University Texas 7-1 and 9-3 Saturday afternoon at Don Shepard Park.

The Yellow Jackets fell 7-1 in game one of the double header after being outhit 10-4.,

Howard Payne got their only run of the game in the first. Brandon,Garrett started the inning with a single through the right side. Joshua Martinez's sac bunt then pushed Garrett to second and Brett Quackenbush ground out allowed him to get to third. After a Matthew Daniel walk, a failed pickoff by the CTX pitcher went high allowing Garrett to score from third.

Jacob Spivey got the loss in the start giving up four runs on seven hits and striking out six. Shawn Brody struckout three in the final two frames. Garrett finished the game 2-for-3 from the plate.

In game two of the double header it was a 2-2 game after five but a six-run sixth by Concordia blow the game open.,

After CTX scored one in their first at bat, the Jackets took a 2-1 lead after the bottom of the inning. With the bases loaded, Connor,Roberts reached on a fielding error by third baseman allowing Quackenbush and Garrett to score.

HPU would add another run in the eighth when,Roberts singled to center field to score Quackenbush who had reached on,singled through the right side.

Kyle Ramon got the no decision in the start allowing two runs on four hits and striking out seven in five innings. In the final four frames, Dustin Kelver came on in relief for the loss giving up seven runs on seven hits but striking out four. Garrett again led the Jackets at the plate going 2-for-5 and 4-for-8 for the day.

Howard Payne will have a non-conference outing at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas on Tuesday starting at 6:00 pm.
