ABILENE, Texas - Five errors for the Howard Payne University baseball team led to a 9-8 midweek loss for the Yellow Jackets to Hardin-Simmons University in non-conference action Tuesday evening.

Despite outhitting the Cowboys 14-10, Yellow Jacket fielding errors and stranding 18 runners played a huge factor in the 9-8 loss.

Bailey Smith was 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI. Cliff Lunceford finished the game 4-for-6. Hunter Bazan and Jacob Salazar each added two hits.

Chandler Clark had a non-decision start going 3.0 innings allowing no runs and two hits. Shown Brody threw one inning of relief allowing four runs on three hits.

Wesley Smith (1-1) recorded the loss in relief allowing four runs on three hits in 1.2 innings of action.

Preston Newman threw ,2 innings and Kyle Purdes would finish the final 1.2 innings.

Howard Payne is now 15-11 overall and Hardin-Simmons stands at 10-17 on the year. The Jackets will be at home this weekend versus McMurry University starting with a single game on Friday at 2:00 pm and then a double header on Saturday starting at 1:00 pm
