Box Score 2 WAIPAHU, HAWAI'I- The battle of the HPUs ends in heartbreak as the Howard Payne University baseball club dropped both legs of Sunday's double header to the Sharks of Div. II Hawai'i Pacific, 10-9 and 20-4, at Hans L'Orange Park.
Game One
Howard Payne jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning due to a Rylee McGee triple.
The Jackets would then extend their lead to 4-1 on a throwing error that allowed RJ Roberts to come home.
Hawai'i Pacific tied it up 4-4 in the 5th inning on a triple of their own, and then took a 6-4 lead in the 6th on a double.
The Jackets drew within one on another RJ Roberts' tank, but that's where the game would end in a 6-5 final.
RJ Roberts finished the game 2-5 with a homerun and 1 rbi, and Rylee McGee, in his first start for the Jackets, finished 3-4 with 2 ribs of his own.
Xavier Haines had a solid start going 4.1 giving up 4 earned runs on 7 hits. Korey Owen fell to 0-1 on the year after giving up 1 earned run, on 1 hit in 2/3 of an inning.
Game Two
An 11 run 1st inning for the Sharks put the Jackets in a hole they just could not climb out of.
Seth Owen with the start made it 2/3 of an inning giving up 11 runs, none earned, on 5 hits. 6 other pitchers combined to close out the game at a final of 20-4.
Zach Gingrich, Ty McCain and RJ Roberts all had one hit. Gingrich and Collin Davis had an rbi a piece.
