Brownwood, Texas – The Howard Payne Baseball Club defended their home field 5-1 against the visiting Sul Ross State Lobos on Friday afternoon.
The Jackets got the scoring started in the 2
nd inning thanks to a
Jacob Rodriguez single that scored
David Groves.
Noah Payne singled again in the 2
nd to score
Nolyn Box, and then Box doubled in the 3
rd, scoring Groves and
RJ Roberts making the score 5-0.
The Lobos would finally scratch a run across in the 8
th making it 5-1, but that's where the scoring would end.
Josh Gerig and
Jacob Rodriguez both had two hits for the Jackets, and
Nolyn Box had a double and grabbed 2 RBIs.
Chandler Clark delt over his 7 innings on the mound giving up 5 hits and 1 run while striking out 6.
Kory Owen struck out 1 batter over his inning and
Brenden Clanton threw an inning as well.
The Jackets improve to 18-9, 12-1 in the ASC and the Lobos drop to 11-11, 7-3 in ASC play. The Jackets will be back at it again with two games tomorrow afternoon. The first pitch of Saturday's double header will be at 1:00 pm.
