Box Score 2 Brownwood, Texas – The Howard Payne Baseball Club dropped two non-conference games against the University of Dallas at home by the scores of 7-2 and 11-4.
Game One
The first game of the weekend didn't feature much scoring until the end as Dallas got up 1-0 in the 1st inning. No one would score again until the Crusaders extended their lead to 3-0 in the 6th and again to 7-0 in the 7th. Howard Payne would finally answer with a two-run homerun by David Paleo that scored Jonathan McKay and ended the scoring at 7-2.
Four Jacket batters turned in one hit ball games and Paleo had two RBIs.
Xavier Haines got the nod and threw 5.2 innings giving up three earned runs while striking out six. JT Howard saw some work along with Johnny Cravey.
Game Two
The Jackets fell down early as the Crusaders jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning and extended it to 3-0 in the 3rd and 4-0 in the 5th. Howard Payne battled back in the 5th scoring Carson Wert on an RBI single by Zach Gingrich and Joey Villarreal singled home Jonathan McKay to make it 4-2.
Dallas then struck back with three runs in the 6th inning and another in the 7th making the lead 8-2. The Jackets scraped one more run across in the 7th to make the score 8-3. Dallas extended their lead to 11-3 in the 8th and RJ Roberts made it 11-4 with a solo homer to end the scoring.
Gingrich and Wert both turned in two hits on the day while three Jackets had one RBI. Gingrich also crossed the plate twice.
Bryant Chambers got the start lasting five innings while giving up four runs, three earned, four hits and striking out two. Seth Brody, Ty Garner, and Landin Blass saw some work, while Kory Owen threw a scoreless 9th while striking out two.
The Jackets fell to 3-3 on the season and will look to bounce back in Kerrville against Schriner on February 18th. The first pitch will be at 12:00 pm.
