Box Score BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's basketball team battled back from a 28-point second half deficit falling in the end 91-77 to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Thursday evening.

Down 65-37 five minutes into the second half, Howard Payne rallied and cut the Mary Hardin-Baylor lead to eight, 79-71 with 4:41 remaining in the game.

Trailing 50-29 at the half, the Yellow Jackets outscored the Cru 48-41 in the second half but it was UMHB's 56-37 rebounding advantage on the night that played a factor in the outcome.

The Jackets forced 20 UMHB turnovers but struggled themselves shooting making 38% (27 of 71) of their shots from the field and 43.5% (10 of 23) shooting from the free-throw line.

Howard Payne was led by Jacob Smith with 20 points off the bench. Jase Miguez followed with 13 points. Kyle Kildare added 13 points and a game high 14 rebounds. Joshua Taylor had four steals and Jaylan Ballou finished with four assists.

UMHB was led by Sam Moore with 19 points and 12 rebounds followed by Logan Hicks with 17 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

Howard Payne is now 2-22 overall and 1-14 in American Southwest Conference action. UMHB stands at 14-10 overall and 6-9 in league play. The Jackets will finish the season at home on Saturday versus Concordia Texas at 3:00 om. The HPU seniors will be recognized before the game.
