BELTON, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's basketball team fell 103-69 to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday afternoon in conference action.
Jase Miguez and
Tyrell Thompson scored 16 points each for the Yellow Jackets with Thompson also grabbing a team high nine rebounds.
Jaylan Ballou recorded five assists.
The game remained close early on till the midway point of the first half when UMHBÂ put together a run and built a double digit advantage.
With Howard Payne trailing 44-31 at the half, Mary Hardin-Baylor outscored the Jackets 59-38 in the second on the way to the 103-69 UMHB final.
The Jackets struggled on the offensive end connecting on just 29.1% (25 of 86) of their shots from the field and 25.9% (9 of 26) from behind the arc in the game.
UMHB was led by Sam Moore with 30 points and 11 rebounds and 11 assists followed by Logan Hicks with 20 points.
Howard Payne is now 1-20 overall and 0-12 in American Southwest Conference action. UMHBÂ stands at 13-8 overall and 5-7 in league play. The Jackets will play next at home on Feb. 13th versus McMurry University at 7:30 pm.
