BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University baseball team finished out its conference series with Concordia University Texas with a 16-1 loss Saturday afternoon at Don Shepard Park.

Recording its only run of the game in the bottom of the first, Howard Payne did not get the timely hits needed and went on to strand nine base runners in the game. 

A William Burford single up the middle plated Derek Gifford for the Yellow Jackets only run of the game.

Gifford finished 2-for-4 at the plate and Burford followed with a 2-for-3 showing on the day. Joey Villarreal, RJ Roberts, Noah Coronado, and Carson Wert also recorded hits for the Jackets.

Ricky Mays recorded the loss in the start for HPU going 3.0 innings and allowing nine runs on five hits and walking five. Gary Blair, D'Andrey Silva, and 
Cyah Daniel also saw time in relief for the Jackets.

The Yellow Jackets will play next Friday and Saturday in Abi;ene, Texas in a weekend conference series versus Hardin-Simmons University.
