KERRVILLE, Texas - The Howard Payne University baseball team out hit Schreiner University 13-8 in a 10-7 non-conference victory over the Mountaineers Tuesday afternoon.

Merek Hawthorne had his best outing as a Yellow Jackets so far at the plate going 4-for-4 with 2 RBI.
The Yellow Jackets used a six-run second inning to take control of the game early and a three-run eighth to put the game away.
Joey Villarreal and
Matthew Garcia each went 2-for-4 at the plate with 2 RBI for Howard Payne.
JT Howard recorded the win in relief for the Jackets throwing 2.0 innings, allowing one run and striking out two.
Gary Blair got the no decision in the start for HPU allowing two runs on two hits and striking out three in 2.0 innings of work.
Ty Garner, Nicolas Richards, and
Cyah Daniel each saw one inning in relief,
Brendan Read would throw the final two innings striking out two.
Howard Payne is now 3-4 overall and Schreiner stands at 2-2 on the year. The Yellow Jackets will have a home conference series this weekend versus East Texas Baptist University.
