BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University baseball team dropped games 7-5 and 9-3 in a conference double-header versus McMurry University Saturday afternoon at Don Shepard Park.
Game One
The Yellow Jackets posted a five-run seventh inning to pull within two but fell 7-5 in the seven inning final.
Trailing 7-0, HPU got RBI singles from
RJ Roberts,
Stephen Prewitt, and
Trevor Fletcher and a two RBI ground-rule double from
William Burford to make game one close in the end.
HPU'sÂ
Will Iannacone was the only Jacket with multiple hits going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Chandler Paul recorded the loss in the start for HPU allowing six runs on eight hits and striking out four in 3,0 innings.
Brendan Read threw 3.0 innings and
Nick Diaz threw the final frame.
Game Two
The Jackets gained a 2-1 advantage in the fourth on an
Rylee McGee sac fly and
RJ Roberts RBI single through the left side
A three-run seventh and ninth innings by McMurry put the game out of reach in the 9-3 final.
The Jackets added their third run in the seventh on a
Noah Coronado single to score
Trevor Fletcher.
Kyle Pudes got the loss in the start allowing five runs on 11 hits in 6.2 innings.
Landin Blass and
Harlee Biggs saw time in relief for HPU.Â
HPU will have a non-conference road game at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas on Tuesday at 6:00 pm before finishing out the season with a conference road series at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on April 29-30.
