Jackets Sting Wildcats to Clinch Series

Brownwood, Texas: After potential storms pushed Louisiana College from hosting a home series to coming to Brownwood, Howard Payne took both games in Friday's double header by scores of 9-3 and 9

Game One

LC looked as if the long road trip had no effect on their bats as they jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the 1st inning. HPU would take 1 run back on an RJ Roberts double that plated Joshua Gerig.

The Jackets tied it up in the 3rd inning when Noah Payne scored on a Manny Torralba single. They would then take the lead when RJ Roberts ripped a sac fly to center.

The Wildcats of LC would score once more, but the Jackets busted the game wide open with a 6 run 6th that gave them a 9-3 win.

RJ Roberts finished 2-2 with a double and two runs batted in. Jacob Salazar and Manny Torralba both finished 1-3 with 2 RBIs of their own. Noah Payne drew a hit by pitch, his 29th of his career setting the HPU record for hit by pitch in a career. The previous record was held by Kasey Black (2006-07) with 28.

Bryson Lyro got the win on the bump tossing 6 innings and giving up 3 runs, 2 earned, and striking out 4. Brenden Clanton also tossed 1 scoreless inning.

Game Two

The Jackets swarmed out to a quick 2-0 lead in the 1st inning on an rbi SAC fly from Joshua Gerig that scored Noah Payne, and a wild pitch that scored Manny Torralba.

Howard Payne stayed steady adding one more run in the 3rd on an RJ Roberts single, another in the 4th, and then putting up 3 in the 5th. The score would end there at 9-2.

The Jackets were led by Noah Payne and Manny Torralba who both went 2-4 with 2 rbis.

Chandler Clark got the start on the mound throwing 5.1 innings giving up 1 earned run and grabbing 2 strike outs.

The Jackets improved to 5-7, 2-0 in the ASC and the Wildcats dropped to 4-3, 0-2 in ASC play. The weekend series will wrap up tomorrow with the 1st pitch being at Noon here at Don Sheppard Park.
