Kerrville, Texas - The Howard Payne Baseball Club dropped with Schriner University in a Tuesday double header 14-3 and 17-2.
Game OneÂ
A huge 4th inning for the Mountaineers helped lead them to victory in game one.
After scoring one in the 2nd, Schriner added five in the 4th and one more in the 5th to go up 7-0. Nolyn Box singled home Jonathan McKay to make it 7-1 and the Jackets scored again to make it 7-2.
The Mountaineers added seven more to their lead in the 6th and Cade Varrichio singled David Berzins home in the 7th to end the scoring at 14-3.
Varrichio led the Jackets at the plate in game one going 2-3 with a walk, scored a run and added an RBI.
Jeramy Dodson got the loss after throwing three innings. He gave up 3 hits and one run while striking out 4. Nick Diaz, Kade Coleman, Ethan Cerna and Koby Hasty pieced together the final 3 innings.
Game Two
The Mountaineers struck first again scoring one run in the 1st. They then added seven runs in the 2nd to extend their lead to 8-0. Schriner would cross five in the 3rd to go up 13-0 and added three more in the 4th.
Joey Villarreal would single home Collin Davis in the 5th making 16-1. Schriner would answer going up 17-1 and Mark Willoughby would score on a wild pitch in the 6th to end the scoring at 17-2.
Joey Villarreal and Seth Stephens got the lone hits for the Jackets while Villarreal would tally the only RBI.
Kyle Purdes acquired the loss in this contest lasting 1.2 innings giving up 10 hits, eight runs (seven earned), while striking out one. JT Howard, Johnny Cravey, and Seth Brody would combine for 2.1 innings while Ty Garner and Kory Owen would both toss a scoreless inning a piece with Owen striking out two.Â
