2009 and 2010 (Texas State): Prior to arriving at HPU, he played for the Texas State Bobcats during the 2009 season playing in one game and recording one tackle. He did not play in 2010.

HS: J.D. is a 2009 graduate of Hyde Park Baptist School in Austin, Texas. He was named Academic All-State, All-Centex team and an All-District First Team selection as a tight end and linebacker. He also earned All-State Honorable Mention honors as a senior after earning Second-Team All-State honors as a linebacker in 2007, recorded 118 tackles as a junior, caught 45 passes for 771 yards and 15 touchdowns as a tight end with 90 tackles, including 58 solo and four tackles for losses as a senior. He also forced two fumbles and two interceptions while scoring two defensive touchdowns in 2008. He was a member of the National Honor Society.

Personal: J.D. is a Business major who plans on going into construction. He is the oldest son of Nancy and John King and has a younger brother and a younger sister. When J.D. is not playing football or studying, he enjoys fishing, hunting, and living at his ranch.
